The Phoenix International Raceway is located 25 miles west of Phoenix in the foothills of the Estrella Mountains. Phoenix International Raceway was built in 1964, but the NASCAR Cup Series did not run there until 1988. PIR currently has 2 NASCAR race weekends - the Subway Fresh 500 Night race in April and the Checker Auto Parts 500 in November. Phoenix International Raceway is a one mile oval with a unique bend in the backstretch.
